Step Up project: improving volunteer management in Croatia

Center for Peace Studies (CPS) is committed to improving the integration of refugees in Croatia. With the help of many volunteers, they offer support with, among other things, language lessons, education and labor market participation.

How do we work together?

The Step Up Fund helps CPS to strengthen volunteer management, from recruitment and training to practical support for asylum seekers and refugees. Well-trained volunteers improve and enhance the work of the organization, enabling it to deliver high-quality services.

What does Center for Peace studies do?

CPS argues for a better integration policy and the implementation of an action plan by the responsible institutions. The organization does this as a member of the Working Group for Integration, which includes both governments and civil society organizations.

Volunteers are an essential part of the organization: they support refugees and asylum seekers with their daily struggles and organize activities that promote integration.

Background

Although Croatia is a transit country for most refugees to Western Europe, a smaller group remains behind. Human rights violations at the borders make it difficult to access asylum procedures, which also take a very long time. Meanwhile, there are all kinds of integration activities that are not carried out by the government.
