American support ends suddenly: foreign humanitarian organisations in crisis

The Trump administration’s abrupt decision to freeze funding for humanitarian aid is having a massive global impact. Our partner organisations in Türkiye and Curaçao are severely impacted.

Millions of people are losing access to essential aid, with catastrophic consequences for refugees and displaced people. Food and medical assistance are at risk, while access to legal support is being severely reduced. In many countries, including Congo, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Ukraine, Sudan and Syria, aid programmes have come to a complete standstill.

Tragic consequences in Curaçao

On the island of Curaçao, where thousands of refugees, mainly from Venezuela and Colombia, seek safety, the impact is devastating. According to Simone de Brabander of Human Rights Defence Curaçao (HRDC), the suspension of funding puts their work at immediate risk.
